One Year of Blogging + A Day in the Life

Updated: Oct 25, 2023

One year ago today I hit publish on my first blog post and started showing up online regularly. It was a day I had dreamed about for years and now that one year has passed, I can't believe how far I've come. I had 11 followers on Tik Tok last October. I do my best to show up and share as much as I possibly can in as many places as I can- here on the blog, instagram, and of course Tik Tok too. So whether you've been here from the beginning or are someone that has found me somewhere along the way- thank you! I'm so glad you are here!

I thought it would be fun to do a day in the life post to celebrate. Last Monday I did my best to take notes and photos to document every single thing I did the entire day. Kris happened to be off from work that day and it was so helpful to have the extra hands to take some behind the scenes photos and videos. So let's get into what one of my days looks like as an interior design content creator these days.

6:00 am

My alarm goes off and it's time to hit the gym! I typically life weights four to five times a week.

Kris has recently started working out with me and I love having the company, plus he works so much that sometimes this is the only time we'll have together all day.

Today happened to be a chest and arms workout. It took us about an hour and then we headed home to get the kids ready for school.

7:30 am

Phoenix gets himself ready, Kris gets Lincoln dressed, and I'm on lunch duty. Monday is sandwich day so I quickly make and pack the boy's lunches.

I also throw a few breakfast corndogs into the microwave for the boys.

8:00 am

We then all hop in the car and drive the boys to school. Since Kris works most nights of the week he has always made it a priority to help me get the kids to school, most days this will be the only time he sees them since they're asleep by the time he gets home.

Phoenix grabbed our puppy Bear on our way out the door so he tags along with us this morning too.

As soon as we get home I get our Narwal vacuum going. We have three dogs so running the vacuum is a daily ritual to keep the dog hair in check.

Then I sit down at the bar to check e-mail while Kris makes us breakfast.

Kris makes huevos rancheros which is probably my favorite breakfast!

After I finish up breakfast and checking my e-mails I grab some sweet potato chili I made the day previously and get it on the crockpot to warm up for dinner.

8:30 am

Then it's time to get ready. I get dressed, put on my makeup, and curl my hair so I can actually start my day!

9:00am

Next up is project time- today I'm working on the Halloween decorations for the porch. I already have the rough plan in place, but I need to get everything executed and filmed for a Tik Tok and Instagram video. I also hop on Instagram stories at this time to share some behind the scenes details.

After the porch is finished and I have all of my process videos I pull out the good DSLR camera to take some photos for Instagram.

10:00 am

Next up it's time to make some videos for Tik Tok. One of my videos will be the Halloween porch, but I also have an idea for a funny trending video as well. I spend about an hour creating and editing both of those.

11:00 am

After that I get back on my computer and edit the photos I took of the porch so I can get my Halloween porch video up on Instagram. I get everything ready to post and then *womp womp* Instagram is down!

I try refreshing for about fifteen minutes before I realize that it's not just me and it's down for Kris too. A bit of googling and I realize that Instagram is down world wide (what?!) so I give up and move on with my day.

11:30 am

I make lunch for myself and Kris- chicken salad I prepped over the weekend on bread with some pineapple on the side.

After lunch it's time to finish painting the breakfast nook. Kris and I did the first coat over the weekend, but the space still needs a second coat so I throw on a baggy shirt and get to cutting in while Kris rolls.

This takes up the rest of the afternoon. Meanwhile I'm still furiously checking Instagram every few minutes to see if it's back up yet. It's not.

3:10 pm

I hop in the car to pick up the kids from school and this is easily my favorite part of the day! I typically try to be finished with work at this point, but that doesn't always work out.

Today I still have a few more things to do, but I get backpacks put up and lunch boxes unpacked.

Once the boys are all settled in playing upstairs I get the DSLR set up in the kitchen to photograph the breakfast nook for the next day's blog post.

Then it's off to my computer to edit the photos and write the post for the repainted breakfast nook. Thankfully, it's not a super in-depth post and I'm able to finish it up in about an hour (most blog posts easily take me 3-4 hours if not longer).

After this it's time to get comfy- I put on my hoodie (I'm pretty much always cold in our house) and snuggle with Lincoln for a bit while he tells me about his day.

Soon after this I realize Instagram is back up so I furiously get my Halloween porch video up as well as post a few more insta stories. Then it's time for dinner and we all sit down at the table to eat. Kris and I have the chili I warmed up earlier while the boys decide they would rather have chicken nuggets.

After dinner, it's time to take Phoenix to swim practice. He does swim team year round at our gym and typically practices 2-3 times a week.

While he's swimming I head upstairs to take a hot yoga class. My absolute favorite thing to do!

After we finish up at swim and yoga I head home while Kris takes the boys to Boy Scouts. When they get home it's bedtime for the boys, Kris and I watch a few episodes of Ozark before I pass out.

And that's it! That's what one of my typical days looks like right now. Some days are busier, and some days are less crazy. I think it would be interesting to do this again in a year to see how my days have changed!
