One Room Challenge- Week 2
Updated: Jun 25, 2021
This week for the One Room Challenge I was focused on making sure we had all of the furniture pieces we want to use in the dining room!
It may not seem like the most progress was made this week, but we went from this...
to this...
We found a table!!! We hung the chandelier!!! We ended up taking a dining table my aunt gifted us, she is in the process of having an estate sale and selling her home to move to her lake house, so she no longer needed it. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but it was so close. I found this Henredon dining table on Marketplace for $850 which was a bit closer to what I was envisioning, but it didn't come with a leaf and only sat six.
So every two years when we host Thanksgiving or Christmas it would be a pain that we couldn't seat eight in here. Not a huge deal since it would only be a problem once every 730 days, but a problem nonetheless. I did a poll on instagram stories to ask you guys which table I should go with and everyone said to go with the free one, so I did!! A lot of you also told me to just wait until we find one that is perfect and that is actually the best answer. But I've been hunting down a dining table for awhile now and since this is an eight week challenge I was getting a little antsy that I hadn't found anything yet. So this one will work for now and I plan to keep my eyes peeled for "the one" too. We also hung the chandelier which was no small feat. That thing weighs over 100 pounds so it was quite challenging! Thankfully Kris is superman and was able to hold it up/balance it on top of the ladder while I did all of the electrical work.
We also moved the buffet in here, which we bought from my aunt- it's a really pretty piece.
I do realize right now it's looking like a lot of dark red wood and I'm hoping that all of the other elements will break that up...like- the rug, the mural, painting the walls, etc. If for some reason it still feels too dark and red in here towards the end I may decide to put a tablecloth over the table too.
I also realized I never shared any overall inspiration images with you guys last week so I want to do that now! These are the images I've been pinning over the last few months and even though I know we are still SO FAR AWAY from anything like this. I know we can get there!
Next week I'm planning to reupholster the dining chairs and then after that it will be time to get going on the coffered ceiling and painting!! Here is how my calendar is looking
Week 1- the plan and the mood board
Week 2- the foundation- find a table, install the chandelier, move the buffet in here
Week 3- reupholster the dining chairs
Week 4- DIY low-profile coffered ceiling
Week 5- Time to paint the walls!
Week 6- Window treatments
Week 7- Finally time to wallpaper!! Our mural is non-woven so I am planning to install it myself using this method just like I did in Lincoln's room (this is the project I am the MOST excited about!!)
Week 8- The final reveal!!
Let me know what you think! Would you have taken the free table or waited out the perfect one?
